RAA held the agency’s third CPR Save Pin presentation ceremony of the year in December. The CPR Pin is meant to recognize crews who successfully saved a Sudden Cardiac Arrest patient’s life. RAA held a CPR Save Pin Presentation on Thursday, December 11 and recognized two crews for calls in which they performed CPR and saved a patient, who was discharged from the hospital with no neurological deficit.

Each year, more than 350,000 people in the United States experience sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) outside of a hospital setting. Of those, only about 35,000 survive to hospital discharge, and far too many carry the lasting impact of neurological impairment.

RAA’s Operational Medical Director, Dr. Joseph Ornato, shared a few words about his firsthand experience with a cardiac emergency decades ago and how the impact of that experience influenced the direction he took with his career. As Chief Operating Officer, Ryan Martinette, described the heroic actions of the crews, Dr. Ornato pinned the recipients:

Jessica Whitehead
Devon Robinson
Heather Liposhak
Christian Thomsen

In addition, members who were unable to attend but were also involved in the lifesaving calls were:

Miguel Bolanos
Liam Glynn

Special thanks to our partners at the American Heart Association – Virginia, as the Chair of AHA’s Board of Directors, Rich Reinecke, with Fahrenheit Advisors, presented each recipient with a Heart Saver Award.
