October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month. RAA took the opportunity to recognize one of our crews who successfully saved a Sudden Cardiac Arrest patient’s life. RAA held a CPR Save Pin Presentation on Monday, October 20 and recognized a crew for a call in which they performed CPR and saved the patient’s life, with no neurological deficit.
Each year, more than 350,000 people in the United States experience sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) outside of a hospital setting. Of those, only about 35,000 survive to hospital discharge, and far too many carry the lasting impact of neurological impairment.
Our Chief Operating Officer, Ryan Martinette, shared a few words about the nerves it takes to walk into a chaotic scene and take control of the situation. He reminded everyone of the impact it has not only on the patient but also on their loved ones. As he read their commendations, Captain Tiffany Samuels pinned our recipients:
Blake Vanderkolk
Isabella Heiderman
Annie Sczepanik
Michael Jimenez
Special thanks to our partners at the American Heart Association – Virginia, as the Chair of AHA’s Board of Directors, Rich Reinecke, with Fahrenheit Advisors, presented each recipient with a Heart Saver Award.
