The Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) and American Red Cross teamed up for National Blood Donor Month in January. During the winter months, inclement weather often results in the cancellation of blood drives, and seasonal illnesses like the flu may cause some donors to become temporarily unable to donate.

It makes it one of the most difficult times of the year to collect enough blood products to meet patient needs. One donation saves up to three lives. National Blood Donor Month has been recognized since 1970 with the goal of increasing blood and platelet donations during winter.

RAA and American Red Cross held a blood drive at RAA headquarters and nearly doubled our initial goal, potentially saving dozens of lives. RAA was pleased to help and thankful for everyone that came out to donate.

American Red Cross is always looking for donors. You can always register online at www.redcrossblood.org
