8News got a visit from two special guests on Monday to talk about an upcoming Thanksgiving Safety Fair, which will take place this week ahead of holiday travel and feature child safety seat inspections.

8News anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall were joined by Captain Veronica Ruffin, a child passenger safety seat technician with Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA), and Morgan Dean, manager in public and government affairs with AAA Mid-Atlantic, as both organizations have teamed up alongside Drive Smart Virginia to host the event.

“We want parents, we want caregivers to come out, get those safety seats checked,” Dean said. “The big thing with car seats is that you think you’ve installed it correctly, but there may be something that you skipped or didn’t do.”

People can head to the Target at 7107 Forest Hill Ave on Wednesday, Nov. 19 or to the Walmart at 2410 Sheila Lane on Thursday, Nov. 20 to attend the fair, which will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. both days.

Ruffin also talked more about the steps involved with installing a car seat, which included knowing where a car seat should be positioned — as well as common mistakes, like the car seat being too loose.
