The Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) was part of the escort for the “Walk for Peace” as Buddhist monks and their dog, Aloka, made their way through the City of Richmond. The group stopped at Richmond Fire Station 17 before traveling to City Hall, where they were joined by Richmond Mayor Danny Avula, Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger and hundreds of spectators.
Led by Venerable Viku Panyakara, the 19 monks from the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center traveled on foot to encourage national healing, facing freezing weather and injuries to spread a message of unity and non-violence. Their 120-day, 2,300-mile journey began in Fort Worth, Texas on October 26, 2025, and continued to Washington, D.C., to raise awareness of inner peace and mindfulness across the country and world.
RAA was on hand as the monks traveled through the city to provide medical assistance if necessary for them and those in attendance who wanted to catch a glimpse of the walk.
